Ola’s e-scooter

Updated: May 16, 2023

Ola’s e-scooter - A destructor in the market

India the world's largest two wheeler market is witnessing the biggest disruption ever. Neither the largest motorcycle manufacturer (Hero Motocorp) nor the market leader for scooters (Honda motorcycles and scooters India) is safe with the entry of Ola’s e-scooter.

Ola’s e-scooter with the fiest of its kind interactive Technologies, is going to throw a big challenge for all the existing players. Proximity lock/unlock facility senses the owner walking towards/away from it. The keyless wonder vehicle can be unlocked through proximity sensors, touch screen display or through the app. Voice assist, Hill-hold, built-in-speaker, cruise control are going to be the game changers.

EV shift threats for 2-wheeler market is already ON. Though 2-wheeler companies like Bajaj Auto, TVS Motors, Hero Motocorp and Ather Energy are all major players in EV market place, they all have to scale up their products to protect their turf from Ola.

Ola e-scooters have a top speed of 90 - 115 kmph versus 70 - 115 kmph for peers. The market was startled when Ola received 1,00,000 bookings in the first 24 hours during mid July 2021. Once delivery starts from October 2021 all hell will break loose in the market.
Bike rental companies targeting gig-workers, sales representatives, school and college goers, young women executives and delivery executives may constitute the largest section of buyers.

Reduction in registration fee by many state governments and no requirement of driving license are added advantages for EV two wheelers.
